After a long and largely fruitless campaign, Cristiano Ronaldo is currently recharging his batteries on holiday in sunny St Tropez, where he’s been endearing himself to the locals by swan-diving off yachts and catching a few rays. Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has shared a heartfelt video across his various social media accounts in which he thanked fans for their support over the course of the season.
Ronaldo has thanked his fans for the support they have given him during what he describes as a ‘tough’ year. The Portuguese broke up with girlfriend Irina Shayk, with speculation regarding the circumstances surrounding the split rife ever since. On the pitch, his goalscoring hasn’t slowed down, notching another 61 goals for Real Madrid in the 2014/2015 season.
In the last season, there were also much speculation how he could not compete with his rival, Lionel Messi. And during one of the quieter moments in his holiday, Ronaldo took time to record and post on social media a fairly odd and seemingly impromptu thank-you video message addressed to his fans.
In the message, Ronaldo salutes his legions of social media fans for sticking with him, and he does all this while lying topless on his poolside sun lounger. Addressing his fans while on holiday, Ronaldo said, “Thank you very much for your support this year. It was tough, but you’re always there. You showed that you’re always loyal.”
While the odd statement from the Real man was how he also pleaded with the world’s media to stay out of his private life after weeks of rumors and speculation.
“But, it’s coming in my mind to do this video, I don’t know why,” Ronaldo said. “You know I never speak to the press, I never speak about my private life, but I want this opportunity to say the last couple of weeks the press tried to say trash about me: that I have a new girlfriend, that I do this, that I do that. Just leave me alone.”
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner has seen stories regarding his break-up with long-term girlfriend Irina Shayk explode in recent weeks, with allegations that he cheated on the Russian model with multiple women from around the world.
“Let me do my work properly like I do it every year. Don’t try to damage my image because it’s not going to happen.” Refocusing his attention once more on his fans, Ronaldo concluded by saying, “So this message is for you guys.
