Angel Di Maria has dismissed suggestions that he is set to leave Manchester United, saying he will be back at Old Trafford next season. Angel Di Maria has said he will be at Manchester United next season despite a “hard” debut campaign in England. Di Maria became the British record signing when he joined United from Real Madrid for £59.7 million last summer.
The winger made a promising start but then struggled due to a loss of form and succession of injuries. He struggled to make an impression in his debut season and started just one Premier League match after March 4, the last game of the season against Hull. That led to reports that he could already be heading for the exit door, with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germainrumoured to be interested in securing his services.
It is understood United were willing to listen to offers for Di Maria and would have sold him if they could have recouped the huge fee they paid for him. But Di Maria has told United boss Louis van Gaal he is going nowhere and has vowed to be better next time round.
Di Maria has also been linked with rumors that said United may cut their losses and offload Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain, the player has confirmed he will be staying. “I have just finished my first season playing for Manchester United. Now I will play the Copa America and then I will move back to Manchester for next season and do my best there.”
Di Maria scored just four goals this season and created 12 more as he struggled to be as influential as he was with Real. He even lost his place in Van Gaal’s team towards the end of the season as the Dutchman tried to find a winning formula. His situation wasn’t helped at the start of 2015 when his luxury home was burgled while his family were inside it.
He added: “It was a hard season for me. I think it was hard because it was another country and another league, and this league is harder than the Spanish one. So, I couldn’t adapt myself as I wanted to. La Liga and the Premier League are completely different. The Premier League is physically stronger. It was not easy at all and I ended playing few minutes.”
Manchester United, meanwhile, are expected to hold talks with Brazil and Barcelona full-back DaniAlves following this weekend’s Champions League final in Berlin.
