Portugal victory over Germany makes Rui Jorge feels proud of his team. He praised his team ‘intensity’ in beating Portugal players after an ‘historic’ semi-final win over Germany. Portugal coach, Rui Jorge said that he was really proud of Portugal players. All this time they have been with the team and they also have shown total commitment, passion, respect, and he was pleased to see their effort in winning the semi-finals match. Their match with Germany showed how good they are.
Jorge added that his role here is only to help their development and to give them the right conditions to continue performing their true ability. After winning the semi-finals, they were prepared to see who they would face in the final. He also commented that it was an historic moment for Portuguese football since the last time they reached one final in 1994 at Under-21 level although that was in a different format. When they picked this group, they knew they had a lot of quality although there were some fears whether they could show all their qualities like this one they have faced today. But they knew they were capable of playing against big teams and they proofed that.
One of Portugal players and one of the goal makers, Bernardo Silva said that it was a great result against one of the best teams in Europe. He also added that it was not a result they were expecting to achieve since it was not normal to win 5-0 in a European Championship semi-final but they were happy with the result and it gave them a lot of motivation for the future. He was aware that a lot of praise was given to him due to his displays but his only focus was to help Portugal achieve their goals in the competition.
Germany coach, Horst Hrubesch commented on the match result that losing 5-0 gave no chance of excuse. They wanted to be aggressive from the beginning but they did not get into the game. The coach felt relieve that it was not more than five in the end and he said that the team have could accept their loss. They win and lose together, he said.
Germany midfielder, Joshua Kimmich said that only if they had given it their all, they would not have lost 5-0 from Portugal. Every player has to ask himself whether there was something wrong today. Whoever the enemy is you cannot lose a match 5-0.
