Lille endured a difficult campaign by finishing eighths in Ligue 1, and Origi enlisted as worst of the team for the season. According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Liverpool forward Divock Origi has been named in Ligue 1’s worst team of the season following his year on loan at Lille. Origi, who will return to Anfiled this summer, was selected among the most unimpressive performers of 2014/2015 campaign.
The 20-year-old player signed for Liverpool from Lille in a £10 million transfer following a 2014 World Cup campaign with Belgium, and immediately loaned back to the Ligue 1 club. The striker has scored eight goals in 33 appearances for the French side, who finished eighth in the tournament board this season. However the young striker has failed to win fans over in France during a difficult campaign, the time when he went over five months without scoring between October and March.
Upon signing Origi last summer, Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers believed that the striker can be one of the most exciting talents in world football. As a matter of fact, Origi’s career as a young footballer is quite impressive by bursting onto the scene at the World Cup at the age of 19 years old, and Liverpool had seen him as a “young player playing in the youth internationals.” He believed that Origi has everything to be a star, including speed, and profile.
Liverpool had looked to cut the loan deal short midway through the 2014/2015 campaign due to Daniel Sturridge’s injury problems, but then decided against it due to a reported compensation fee Lille would have been due.
The newspaper rated every player in the tournament over the course of the season, and Orgi ended the campaign with an average rating of 4.46 out of 10, putting him in L’Equipe list of worst XI. Players featuring in L’Equipe’s side must have played 21 games of the 38 game season.
