Monaco’s request to postpone their match against Montpellierwas rejected by the French Football League (LFP). This postponement was actually requested due to European commitments. As a result of that rejection, Monaco critized the decision of this French governing body that runs the major professional football leagues in France.
The match that has now been rescheduled for April 7 should originally be played on February 14. It was postponed because of heavy rain.
Monaco has an intentionto reschedule the match because of two strong reasons. First, they have to play the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Juventus a week later, and the second, they have six crucialmatcheswithin 20 days. It must be hard for the team to maintain those tight schedules. The players will always be demanded to play in their maximum performance while they have a limited time recover their energy.
The decision of LFP is actually not a major surprise considering the French Football Federation has also given the same decision earlier this month. They rejected a similar request from Paris St Germain to reschedule their Coupe de France semifinal against St Etienne. However, it brought a different response from AS Monaco. They gave a strong criticism to respond the rejection by delivering statements against the French Football League (LFP) that serves under the authority of the French Football Federation.
Quoted from a statement on Monaco’s website, they said that French football welcomed the results of Ligue 1 France clubs involved in European competition and collecting points for the UEFA index. Therefore, AS Monaco added, they deplore the lack of support from the LFP in this endeavor.
Their disappointment was even greater that their request has not even had a chance or preferential treatment of starting a debate in the LFP office about this League’s decision, instead the league which is led by Frédéric Thiriez as the president, has decided on the issue unilaterally.By taking this one sided decisionand not giving Monaco any privilege to discuss, Monaco reputed that LFP does not respect them. It showed when they added a statement saying that Monaco will make every effort to qualify and represent French football as a whole.
