Griffith University Would be a New Training Base for Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar base has been an old dilemma faced by the team. Based on the recent news from Fox Sports (29/6), Griffith University (GU) is planned to be a new training-field for the Roar. Now, they are still negotiating with GU in order to solve Brisbane’s training-field dilemma. As it is known, the contract of the old training place in the long-time training venue Ballymore has expired while the Roar’s field located at Perry Park administration base does not reach the standard required by the three-time A-League championships. While waiting for GU’s Nathan fields decision, the team starting from Friday (26/6)will train at the University’s Mount Gravatt campus.

Regardless the training-field dilemma, the team got good news from the major sponsors, The Coffee Club, as the sponsor for the club for another year. The deal goes close to the $650,000 of the past 12 months. On the other hand, the players and staff have not received their monthly wage yet due to be paid on June 15. The Courier-Mail said that the payment is actually coming up regardless of the financial problems faced by Roar owners, the Bakrie Group.

Concerning the financial problems faced by Roar, Football Federation Australia officials keep monitoring the situation but they are confident enough that the Bakrie Group can pay their players and staff.

Then, the fixture schedule of the A-League 2015-16 was released on Monday (29/6) and the Roar will play on Thursday, October 8 against Western Sydney Wanderers at Pirtek Stadium. Besides, the Roar will also participate in an A-League match against Cairns for the first time with Brisbane to host Wellington Phoenix at Cazaly’s Stadium on Saturday, December 12.

Roar coach, John Aloisi said that it was an exciting draw for the team and they would utilize the next couple of months of pre-season to prepare the match so they could participate on the opening day. Aloisi has elevated former Brisbane defender and the Roar’s under-18 team mentor Josh McCloughan to the club’s senior coaching staff. His achievement shows that he is a talented coach that can lead the Roar for the next big matches.

On the other hand, both A-League and FFA clubs re-affirmed a new A-League Collective Bargaining Agreement yesterday (29/6) and they were waiting acceptance from Professional Footballers Australia. Then, the new CBA features salary cap exemptions that increased player payments and a 30 percent share for them if there is any improved future broadcast rights deal.
