A win for the defending French champions at Parc des Princes would enable them to take a one-point lead at the summit of Le Championnat. And congratulation for Paris Saint-Germain which 3-1 win over Lorient on Friday game (20/3) brought the team to the top of Ligue 1.
Le Championnat’s leaders Olympique Lyonnais are in action on Saturday (21/3), and they are able to re-take their place at the top if they beat OGC Nice at home. But PSG was proven to be successfully take the chance to put their rivals under maximum pressure.
The team and fans should thank to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for his hat trick during the match at Parc des Princes.
It was Ibrahimovic’s second hat trick of the season, and although the final score did not reflect the true nature of the team’s performance, it was actually a vintage display from the PSG talisman. He was entrusted to save the game as many players were unable to make their performance on Friday. Aurier is still injured and misses out along with four other players: Yohan Cabaye, Lucas Moura, and Marquinhos are all injured, while David Luiz is struggling for fitness but was suspended anyway.
During the match against Lyon, Ibrahimovic was immense, albeit against limited opposition, as if he had been feeding off of the energy created by the controversy that surrounded him following his tirade in the 3-2 defeat at Bordeaux.
Last week, the Swede is banned for one UEFA Champions League march after his red card in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea, but will face a Ligue de Football Professionnel disciplinary committee in early April to find out the length of his suspension for his outburst at Stade Chaban Delmas.
The goals by the 33-year-old Swede were easy enough; two were penalties and the other was a finish shot from a Marco Verratti pass; but it was the rest of the Paris-Saint Germain that was so impressive.
Aside from Inrahimovic, there were some other notable performances. Among those were Verratti’s. He played in the deepest midfield position which was normally occupied by Thiago Motta. The Italian provided Ibrahimovic’s third goal and was again crucial in the SG midfield because of his excellent passing and all-round tenacity.
Otherwise, Maxwell was solid and reliable as ever and displayed exactly why PSG moved to secure his services for another season despite of his 33 years of age. He is currently celebrating his contract extension with Paris-Saint Germain until 2016.
The final score of the game was flattering, but Blanc’s men seems did not ultimately create enough chances to score.
