We have reached the last stage of the La Liga and the final verdicts will be delivered on Sunday night. This weekend, in the final game of the Serie A season, Inter will face Napoli at Giuseppe Meazza.
Inter manager Roberto Mancini will be determined to see his team not go out with an apathetic display. In fact, this game against the Tuscans still holds much importance for the Nerazzurri. European qualification is highly unlikely, almost impossible one might say, but there is a bunch of hope shown by the club’s members.
Striker Mauro Icardi spoke to the Inter Channel saying that he has faith and still believes. The positive-thinking Argentine has a point. As it stands, Inter sit in eighth place, but if the luck is theirs, then it is actually achievable.
“It’s only right that we believe in Europe until the end,” said Icardi. “We have to try and get all three points, then you never know what could happen. We’ll keep going until the 90th minute, fortunately we have this small chance and we hope to take it.”
It is Genoa who sits in the sixth position and currently waiting to hear about their appeal for a UEFA license. If this is denied, the place will go to their city rivals, Sampdoria, who is currently in the seventh place.
The Blucerchiati are three points ahead but have a worse goal difference than Inter, accounted for seven goals.
Sampdoria hope Genoa’s off the field problems give them the chance to enter the Europa League, but need a result against Parma to be sure even of that. Then if Inter beat Empoli and Parma beat Sampdoria then Icardi’s faith will be rewarded.
Inter also have a good record against Empoli and the Tuscans have only managed three wins in 19 attempts against Inter. Add the fact that Inter haven’t been beaten by Empoli in their last five outings and there is even more reason to feel confident.
On the other hand, the squad should have certain strong character and mental capacity to win preseason games which are sometimes viewed as unimportant.
That kind of character will be crucial to instil in the younger players as the attitude has been lacking this year. And it is considered to be one important reason to win on Sunday’s match.
The Nerazzurri are a worldwide brand and no matter the “importance” of the game, there will be many at the stadium. They deserve one final display in which their team gives everything in the hope that at the end of the day maybe they can reach the Europa League.
