Jack Wilshere has been reminded of his responsibilities by Arsenal officials following his conduct at Sunday’s FA Cup victory parade. Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has led fans in an expletive-laden chant during the celebrations. The 23-year-old took to the microphone in front of thousands of fans outside the club’s Emirates Stadium, mocking Premier League rivals Tottenham.
Wilshere chanted a song about Spurs that contained an expletive and was in the middle of another when Arsenal broke off from the live broadcast on the club’s in-house media channel on Sunday (31/5).
It is the second time Wilshere has made such comments, having done so at the same event last season to mark Arsenal’s Cup final victory over Hull City.Fresh from last season’s antics after the Gunners defeated Hull City in the Cup final, the England international returned to the mic with his customary anti-Tottenham song. And, despite a warning from the club about his behavior, the midfielder heaped more embarrassment on Arsenal on Sunday as he celebrated their historic 12th FA Cup, sealed by a 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.
Young children, along with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, were present at the celebrations. Wilsherestarted a chant mocking Spurs, asking the crowd: “I have one question, and one question only: what do we think of Tottenham?”… before adding: “And what do we think of ****?”, then joining in as the crowd sang back: “We hate Tottenham and we hate Tottenham… we are the Tottenham haters.”
England international then started the chant “My old man said be a Tottenham fan….”, which when sang in full includes more expletives aimed at Spurs, Arsenal broke off from the live broadcast on their in-house media channel. The studio presenter immediately apologised for any offence caused by Wilshere’s remarks. An Arsenal spokesman said: ‘Like any broadcast, we apologized when there was swearing.’
Tottenham have lifted the Cup eight times in their history, but having not tasted success in the competition since 1991, Arsenal can now boast a record 12 FA Cup title. Arsenal resumed their celebrations on Sunday morning after defeating Aston Villa 4-0 in Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley. After walking through the streets of Islington, the Arsenal bus returned to the Emirates Stadium and its boisterous supporters, to celebrate their Cup success.
The player could be disciplined by the English Football Association. In October 2013, Wilshere was warned by his manager Arsene Wenger after being photographed smoking outside a London nightclub.
