Jerome Boateng, the German defender was mocked on social media. The mock was spread for a reason. When Barcelona went against Bayern Munich last month, Boateng tried to tackle Lionel Messi and he fell over. He tried to laugh it off although he was subject to a barrage of comedy memes as well as social media criticism after trying to trip up while struggling to backtrack in his penalty area.
In his stride, Boateng actually has taken the Champions League semi-final first leg aftermath and he did not expect such pitfalls would come when you were matched against Messi. When he was interviewed by ESPN, Boateng said that that fall did not really affect him. He was laughing at himself and he added that when you fell down or slipped in a situation that made somebody scored a goal, it was normal. He also commented that those things could happen to anyone, happened to him, and other players, too. He did not care about those things.
Boateng seems not give a damn to the news. He said that Messi was the best player in the world. In football, every player sometimes looks bad or something happens to them including the one that happened to him recently. As a defender, that tragedy did not kill him or anything.
Sadly, Bayern were unable to make it for the second leg of the European tussle. Although they won 3-2 they went out 5-3 on aggregate as they need to settle for only the Bundesliga 2015.
When Boateng was asked about his team’ loss, he said that it was a bad loss for them although they did well for 75 minutes. Against a team like Barcelona was difficult mainly the second goal was such a great goal from Messi. At the end, they need to continue the day and they have to work harder in the next season to win the Champions League. He added that sometimes you lose, sometimes you win and unlucky but that is life.
Boateng did not agree that Guardiola was said to be underachieved since there were other strong teams on the planet like Madrid, Chelsea, and Barcelona. He also commented cynically that his team had been in the Champions League semis every year, won the UEFA Super Cup in the first season, won Club World Cup and other a lot of titles under Pep and the recent one was they won the second time the Bundesliga and everybody said that it was normal but for them it was not since they knew how it worked.
