Luis Suarez, who has been out for two weeks from the pitch, has returned to training with his Barcelona mates on Wednesday (27/5). However he has not being given the clear statement about whether he will play a part in Copa del Rey’s final against Athletic Bilbao. He has been out of the field after sustaining a hamstring injury in the Champions League semi-final second leg at Bayern Munich. Due to the injury, he has been missing Barca’s final two La Liga games.
Suarez has become a key player for Barcelona since last summer’s €80 million arrival from Liverpool. He forms an attacking “trident” alongside Argentine Lionel Messi and Brazil’s Neymar which has contributed a total of 117 goals already this season. He has not played since being substituted during the Champions League semifinal second leg on May 12.
A club statement released after training suggested that, although not been given the all clear to play in the upcoming clashes, Surez was progressing well ahead of the weekend’s final at the Camp Nou. Suarez’s status is still considered doubtful, especially with the Champions League final coming. As a matter of fact, his recovery has been slower than anticipated.
“After having a day off on Tuesday, Barça trained on Wednesday morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on the Tito Vilanova field,” the statement said. “With the cup final against Athletic Bilbao the main priority, the full team was present, including Luis Suarez, who has yet to be given full medical clearance. They were joined this morning by Munir, Sandro, Gumbau, Cámara and Adama of the B team.”
That Uruguayan is training with the group is a good sign, as he had been doing individual work for the past two weeks. The player himself feels as if he is ready, and actually, he thinks that he was ready two weeks ago against Atletico Madrid in the La Liga final match.
