Gonzalo Jara which played for his host country Chile in the Copa America has made his Bundesliga club Mainz angry. The Chile defender was involved in a controversial action in the competition which becomes the center attention of football fans this month. The spreading rumor is already near to an official action which might force him to leave the club.
The controversial action which involved the 29 year old player with Uruguayan ace striker, Edinson Cavani has become one of the biggest issues in the tournament. The provocation made by Hara caused Cavani to receive a red card and might probably one of many reasons why Uruguay lost to the host country 1 – 0. The incident is of course a decision can hardly be accepted by Uruguay side.
Provocation is one of the methods to distract a concentration of opposing players, however what happened in the incident involving Jara and Cavani is already beyond common acceptance. Camera caught the incident where Jara poking Cavani’s backside before then falling to the ground holding his face after the Uruguayan responded by flicking his hand onto Chilean’s chin. The referee directly sent Cavani off after by giving him a second yellow card.
Jara surely knew how to set the trap, he made his opponent angry and then with a slightest respond he received, he tricked the referee to believe him that he received a serious violation. The incident which happened in the 63rd minutes was a tragic one since the referee failed to give appropriate decision.
The South American confederation (CONMEBOL) reportedly is in its attempt investigating the incident and it is not impossible for Jara to receive a sanction like what Neymar received. The worst possible sanction is that Jara might not be able to support Chile in the remaining matches considering the sanction Neymar received is made quickly by the confederation.
The Bundesliga club’s sporting director Christian Heidel is really against what Jara had shown. Provocation is really intolerable and moreover diving following it is more unacceptable. Mainz might let go of Jara if other clubs show interest in the Chile defender.
“We do not tolerate that. What makes me more angry than the prod, however, is what happens after. There is nothing I hate more than theatrics. He (Jara) knows that if an offer comes in, he can go,” Heidel said.
The only possible way for Jara to get out of this situation is apologizing to at least lessen the tension between Chile and Uruguay. Critics have already emerged everywhere and he might have to deal with the consequence.
