Seconds after the final whistle had blown on Inter Milan 1-2 defeat to Wolfsburg, Roberto Mancini made no attempts to hide his disappointment.
“We are disappointed just like the fans and we deserved the boos at the final whistle,” he admitted. We saw enough of the ball and created enough chance to score, but unfortunately we gave away the chances too,” he added.
Wolfsburg are into the next round of the Europa League with a comfortable two-legged win over Inter Milan. Goals from Caligiuri and Bandtner weither side of Palaceio’s goal put the Germans in command. And the star of the match was Kevin de Bruyne who played impressive with some neat passing providing an assist for the opening goal.
As a matter of fact, Mancini realized and briefly admitted that the game was tough from the off, because Inter Milan needed two goals without reply. Their problem was that his men struggle to go a match without conceding. “We commit a lot of mistakes and end up making a rod for our own backs, though in the end I think Wolfsburg are a better than us.”
It seems that the coach tried to be fair, concerning the fact that his team did not show impressive performance as it was expected. “Maybe I’ve not been able to teach the players 100% of what I want to show them, but they are putting in a lot of hard work,” he added. He tried to ensure that his players are working really hard but there might be some fault in his training methods.
On the other hand, Nerazzurri midfielder Hernanes spoke to the media that the team were so disappointed, and “the fans’ anger is understandable.” Inter Milan fans were angry with the unimpressive display of the team and they booed the players for their lack of enthusiasm.
Guarin echoed his teammate statement by admitting that Inter Milan let down their fans after the defeat. “The fans were right to whistle. We have been eliminated but now we need patience from supporters.”
The whole team of outclassed Inter Milan realize that there are some stuffs to be fixed, and moreover, it is the task for the boss to evaluate his training methods. They will get back the fans’ trust if only they are able to play much better than the Wednesday (18/3) match.
“These are the moments that help you to grow. We are disappointed but we must look forward,” declared Mancini.
