Paris Saint-Germain defender, Maxwell, has signed a new one-year agreement in Tuesday (17/3) with the club management, and has indicated that the Brazilian man will end his career with the reigning Ligue 1 champions.
Maxwell joined PSG from Barcelona three years ago, and by the agreement he officially committed himself to the French champions until the summer of 2016. “I am very proud of the confidence placed in me by the president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the whole club,” Maxwell told the club’s official website. “I will continue to give everything to help the club try and reach its objectives.”
Three seasons with Paris-Saint Germain, he feels that the club are very happy together and hopes that he will have lots more incredible moments in the club and continue to play a role with ambition and enthusiasm. However Maxwell admitted that it will be his last contract agreement for his football career as a player, planning to retire at the end of next season.
Being asked about the rumor about ending his career, “I’m still here for everyone and will do everything I can for my teammates, my friends. The club can count on me, I will stay professional right to the end!” he claimed.
Brazilian man had already decided that he will end his career in Paris and the extended contract will be his last chance for his football career as player.
During his career with Paris Saint-Germain for three seasons, Maxwell has made 128 appearances in all competitions since arrivinf at the Parc des Princes for a fee of €3.5 million.
Previously, Maxwell has played for some of Europe’s biggest clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam for 156 matches, played 104 matches for Inter Milan and appeared for FC Barcelona in 92 matches. As an addition, Maxwell has also played in 72 UEFA Champions League matches, a competition he won in 2011. Maxwell has also crowned league champion for four different countries, including Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France.
He’s won both the French top-flight league and the French Super Cup twice in 2013 and 2014, as well as last season’s Cup of League with Les Pariens.
While club president Al-Khelaifi was so happy to offer the versatile full-back a 12-month extension. “Maxwell is an exceptional player who has brought so much to this club since he joined us,” he told the press.
In this season, Maxwell has featured 19 times in Ligue 1, contributing two assists and one goal from left-back post.
