With the end of Ligue 1 tournament, let’s look back at the champion’s campaign toward the summer and next season. We can give B+ final grade for Paris Saint-Germain despite a sluggish start they had. The club is proven to be able to sweep every piece of domestic silverware even though they not being as dominant as they were during 2013/2014 season.
One of the memorable events of the season so far has been eliminating Chelsea in heroic fashion on the continental stage. Knocking Jose Mourinho’s men out over two legs proved that the Ligue 1 side belong among Europe’s elite.
This season’s star man has been Marco Verratti without a doubt. He has been one of Les Parisiens’ main protagonists across all competitions, matured massively from last season and has even started to add goals for his side. Verratti should build on this campaign and challenge for the award next season by maintaining the same consistent form.
On the other hand, Yohan Cabaye is the flop of the season. It has been a difficult season for him by the injuries that have regularly kept him out of the pitch for a place in Blanc’s starting XI. It now looks clear that the club will move Cabaye on this summer to fund other transfers.
Paris Saint-Germain are expected to be busy on the transfer market ahead of next season. They need to have four or five new faces to come in and excluded some of the deadwood. In this summer, the public will also know what happens with UEFA’s financial fair play regulations and how significantly the sanctions imposed on the Ligue 1 side.
While for the next year, Les Parisiens should win a fourth consecutive LIgue 1 title next season, and greater importance will be attached to a Champions League semifinal.
