Following a 3-0 win over Alcorcon on Sunday (24/5), Real Betis has successfully secured a place in Primera Division. The win means Betis are guaranteed a top-two finish in the Segunda Division and an automatic promotion place. It is such a great comeback for the side after a one-year absence from the Spain’s first division.
After a one year away, and with Pepe Mel back in charge as the coach, the club beat Alcorcon to secure Spain’s top flight next season. During the game, there were nearly 50,000 fans at the Benito Villamarin to see them seal the deal. And its only few who can deny that Betis are worthy of their place in the Primera Division.
The Seville side cruised to a win in front of their proud fans as they were quickly took the control for the game and three goals were kicked to the opponent’s net by Castro and Molina.
Striker Ruben Castro scored twice in the 21st and 52nd minutes and Jorge Molina closed the opponent’s opportunity to have a turnaround by adding a third goal in the 65th for the Seville-based side. Castro is the top scorer in the club’s history and has been vital in helping the team bounce back from relegation. His two goal on the last match took his tally to 32 for the season.
Besides Real Betis, there will be four Andalusian clubs vying for honors in the first division next term including Sevilla, Granada and Malaga as the other three. While two more clubs from the southern region, Cordoba and Almeria, are heading in the other direction.
The win means that Betis have amassed 84 points with two games left to play, six points more than second placed Girona with 78 and third-placed Sporting Gijon with 76. Both clubs will now fight it out over the final two matches to decide who joins Betis in the promotion positions.
