Milan, Manchester United and Real Madrid are among the highly-rated reported potential suitors for Unai Emery. Sevilla sporting director Monchi admits that he does not know if the coach will stay at the club next season. Emery is one of the most respected coaches in European football. He has been guiding Sevilla to the Europa League trophy in both his seasons in charge, while he was also having an impressive moments during a three-year stint at Valencia.
Monchi said he hoped that Emery stayed on as he was the “perfect” coach for Sevilla’s requirements. “If there is a profile for the perfect Sevilla coach, the name is Emery. He guarantees competitiveness, results, he increases the value of his players, he works hard… in truth he has everything,” noted Monchi.
The 43-year-old coach has just signed a two-year contract extension to remain at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan until June 2017. Emery is expected to remain at the club for the nest term, but is a reported target for several clubs. And any club wishing to appoint Emery will have to pay Sevilla £1 million in compensation.
He became the first side to lift the trophy four times with a 3-2 victory over DniproDnipropetrovsk in a final in Warsaw on Wednesday (27/5), but Emery now has to decide whether to stick or twist. “Now is not the time to talk about the future,” he told reporters after the game. “I learned a long time ago that you have to live the present without thinking about the future. I’m very happy here,” claimed the boss. He suggested that he chose to enjoy the winning momentum and in couple of days’ time, he will be sitting down with the club president and the sporting director to take a decision for his future as coach.
The coach realizes that the Champions League will be an eye-opener, but he has not feel like talking about it yet. He wanted to enjoy the victory with the family and friends, as well as the supporters.
Emery faces a difficult choice. Despite Sevilla’s European success, they remain also-rans in Spain’s domestic league. “Of course, it would be great to win La Liga but it is not easy with two teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid,” he said. Sevilla have to manage to get 76 points in La Liga this year. The coach also mentioned his good experience in Spain with the club’s fans who are feeling alive until the very last day, and that for him “means a great deal.”
