Yoshinori Muto is a 22-year-old goal-getter from Japan that gives Japan’s strong tradition in the Bundesliga looks that set to continue in 2015/16 to 1.FSV Mainz 05. He has made to Germany’s top flight their home recently but actually he could be better and be the most gifted of the lot.
Massimo Ficcadenti, the head coach of Muto’s former club FC Tokyo stated that the first thing he saw clearly about Muto in his training was his raw power and his explosiveness. When he spoke with his assistants he told them that if he could learn the techniques how to play he could be a fantastic football player.
Muto made his debut in 2013/14 and he never disappoints the Tokyo masses so far. He made the J-League record for most goals in his debut season in 2013/14. At that time he made 13 strikes in 33 outings. Since then, he has been capped 11 times by Japan while pursuing his economics degree at Keio University.
Muto is one of Japanese players that made the most goals. He made his final appearance in a Tokyo shirt in a 3-2 win over Shimizu S-Pulse on 27 June 2015. During the match, he signed off ten goals in 17 league outings for the first half of the latest J-League campaign. He then decided to join Mainz on a four-year deal and his decision ensures that no less than 14 Japanese players will lead Bundesliga in the coming season.
Muto said that Mainz really wanted him to join but he wanted to be realistic and play for a team that matches his level. He wanted to focus on scoring goals. He has big chances to follow Shinji Okazaki’s departure for Premier League outfit Leicester City FC at the Coface Arena. Shinji finished each of the last two campaigns as Mainz top scorer and he becomes the Bundesliga’s all-time leading Japanese marksman that made 37 goals in 128 appearances.
With Muto’s skills, raw power and explosiveness, he could surpass Okazaki’s extraordinary achievements although only time could tell it. There is no doubt that he has the potential to be a big jackpot on German soil. Mainz head coach, Martin Schmidt said that Muto is a quick, agile and technically gifted forward who can play out wide. He also brings the team added qualities in those positions. They are sure that he will fit in with his position now.
